Before you can tap into over $4 billion in annual SBIR/STTR funding, there's some essential groundwork to lay. This guide walks you through the mandatory registrations to ensure you're eligible and ready to apply.
Note that different agencies have different registration requirements!!
Step 1: Register with SAM.gov
Register at https://sam.gov/entity-registration
Obtain a Unique Entity Identification (UEI)
Process can take up to 6 weeks. So start early!
Ensure that all business information is accurate
Step 2: Register with SBA Company Registry
Navigate to the SBA Company Registry website
https://app.www.sbir.gov/company-registration/overview
Complete the registration and save the registration confirmation
Save your SBC Control ID, which you'll need during grant application
Step 3: Register with Grants.gov
Navigate to Grants.gov
Create an account and link your SAM.gov UEI
Complete the organization registration process
Step 4: Register with eRA Commons (For NIH Applicants)
Navigate to eRA Commons
Create an organizational account
Assign roles to key personnel, including the Signing Official (SO) and Principal Investigator (PI)
Step 5: Register with the Defense SBIR/STTR Innovation Portal (For DoD Applicants)
Go to DSIP and start the registration process
Create an account using your SAM.gov UEI
